Entry FAQs
Please get in touch with us to discuss your drink. We are happy to advise you on the most appropriate category - or to add a new category to our entry system if necessary.
Yes, provided the label is clearly marked and the liquid is the final product.
At the moment you will need to fill in some (but not all) of the details again: this is because we've made some improvements which have slightly changed the entry system.
No, you can enter without including a bottle shot. If your drink does well enough to be shortlisted for a Trophy, then we will get in touch and ask for some photos.
No. We are judging the liquid itself, and not how it is served. But you can choose from a range of mixers, and specify the amount of mixer to use.
Sending Samples FAQs
Obviously it varies depending on where you are sending the samples from. But in general we would recommend allowing a minimum of two weeks from Asia/Australia, ten days from North/South America and a week from within Europe.
You will get an automated email as soon as your samples have been booked in by our warehouse team. We look at the same system that you can see, so we don’t know before you do!
For three main reasons:
firstly in case of any faulty bottles (see below);
secondly, to cover the second round of ‘medal’ judging;
thirdly - in the case of Gold medal winners, to cover both the Trophy tastings and to be on display on the WAFA stand at the London Wine Fair.
If you don’t send enough samples your bottle may miss out on a medal or trophy it could have won.
Yes, provided the liquid and the name of the liquid are exactly the same.
Unused stock is made up into mixed cases, and these are sold to raise money for the charity Water.org
Using the Website FAQs
Go to the login page and click on the ‘forgot your password?’ button.
Anyone from the same Company can register on the WAFA website, and get access to your Entrant’s Dashboard - provided that their email address is from the same domain as the person who originally registered.
In fact you may want to have several people registered, e.g. Production Manager, Marketing Manager, Accounts Payable, Head of Logistics.
Your Dashboard is where you do everything. Among other things, you can:
- Enter and pay for your products
- Download address labels
- Organise consolidated shipping
- See whether the samples have been received
- Check your results
- Download image files of your medals
- Order printed medal stickers for your products
In the vast majority of cases it’s quicker and easier to pay by card. But if you prefer to pay by bank transfer, please contact us on b5dcdbd3daf5c2dac7d9d1d4d3d4c2d4c7d1c69bd6dad8
Yes, there is a link to download a receipt on your Entrant’s Dashboard.
Judging FAQs
Every drink entered into the competition is tasted by at least one judging team (typically of three people) and the panel of senior judges/head judge.
Medal winners will go through a second round of tasting to allocate Gold, Silver and Bronze. Gold winners will go into a third round of judging to decide Trophies.
Blind tasting means that our judges do not know the name of the products they are tasting.
They will never see the bottle / can except hidden inside a covering bag. They will know the category - for instance juniper-based white spirits - but not what the drinks are within the flight.
A flight is a group of drinks that are similar in style. Flighting is just the process of organising drinks into flights, ready for judging.
If our judges think that a drink is not in perfect condition, they will ask for a second bottle to be brought out for assessment.
Provided the second bottle is not faulty, then it will be judged instead of the original bottle.
If you have a proven expertise and wide knowledge in the area of alcohol-free then we could consider you to be a judge,
so please contact us on 0c65626a634c7b637e60686d6a6d7b6d7e687f226f6361 to arrange an interview. We do not permit producers or brand-owners to judge at WAFA.
