As a Master of Wine, Annette has been judging wine competitions for 20 years and has been tasting and studying alcohol-free drinks with her laser-like MW focus since the pandemic. Based in Singapore, she says that the region was slow to pick up on AF drinks, but is now catching up fast.

Her favourite AF categories on a personal level are beer and spirits, which she drinks regularly - particularly the latter. 'I love a good cocktail,' she says, 'and when non-alc spirits are consumed in classic styles they really work!'

During the judging days she's particularly looking forward to engaging with the wine flights - and not just because she has spent so much time learning about the subject down the years. 'I've seen first-hand the amount of resource that quality conscioius producers have committed to the category,' she says. 'Initially there may have been question marks over whether alcohol-free wine was here to say, but times have really changed.'

When not travelling (which she does a lot) Annette loves nothing more than to cook - and during lockdown in Singapore cycled round the island to find ingredients so she could fulfil her goal of cooking a different dish every day. It turned out to be a bigger challenge than she expected, since lockdown stretched on for much longer than the predicted 30 days. But she managed it!
