First judges announced for WAFA

17 October 2022

The World Alcohol-Free Awards has unveiled the first judges for its inaugural competition.

Christine Parkinson, one of the most experienced and respected tasters in the field of non-alc, and a co-founder of the competition, is to oversee the judging process, in her role as Head of Judging.

Our first senior judges will be Josh Kelly, of the mindful drinking organisation, Club Soda, and James Morgan of the low- and no-alcohol consultancy Brimful Drinks. Both are famous for the quality of their palates and the breadth of their knowledge in alcohol-free.

The competition's first additions to the pool of judges come with extensive but differing experience in the field of alcohol-free.

Alice Lascelles is a drinks writer of 20 years experience, and has long championed the category in her capacity as a drinks columnist for the Financial Times.

Andy Mee went sober during Covid, and has tasted hundreds of non-alcoholic drinks in his capacity as founder of the Alcohol Free Drinks Company.

And Millie Milliken, is one of the most active drinks writers in the UK, a veteran of multiple competition panels and an early advocate - and experienced judge of the alcohol-free category.

The World Alcohol-Free Awards is dedicated 100% to products at or below 0.5% ABV, so all of its tasters need to understand, appreciate and be able to make informed judgments in this new, ever-changing and highly specialised area.

'A competition is only ever as good as its judges,' said co-founder Chris Losh. 'And we've worked incredibly hard to get the best, and will continue to do so.

'It's a super-exciting time, pulling in the top palates in this area, so keep your eyes open. We'll let you know every time we announce more judges.'
