WAFA unveils 2024 Medal winners

27 March 2024

In what is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the non-alc calendar, the results for the World Alcohol-Free Awards 2024 have gone live today.

In its second year, WAFA has already established itself as the benchmark for all things alcohol-free, with this year’s competition attracting a record number of entries from 21 different countries.

Thirty judges from Europe, North America and the UK came together over two days in London earlier this month to put the products through their paces.

In the world’s biggest ever competitive tasting of alcohol-free drinks, wines, spirits and beers were joined by large numbers of aperitifs, kombuchas, functionals - and some drink styles that had never been seen before.

The only thing they all had in common was that they had to be no higher than 0.5% ABV.

‘The amount of energy and innovation in this category is incredible,’ said Competition Director, Chris Losh. ‘Even in the 12 months since our first awards, you can see changes in style, and, in many categories, tangible increases in quality too.’

In an incredibly rigorous judging format, medal-winners were tasted up to 12 times, by judging teams, senior judges and the Head of Judging, Chrissie Parkinson.

‘There were so many great entries this year, in all categories,’ said Chrissie. ‘There were great drinks from all countries and in all styles. Though some categories, like vermouth, tea-based drinks, aperitifs and shrubs really caught our eye.

'In fact, we're already looking forward to what next year's competition might bring round!'

The results are viewable on the website here. Entrants can access all their own results via their entry dashboard, where they can also download digital medals and place orders for adhesive stickers.
